NET 283: Ethical Hacking

Course Description

Provides students with hands-on experience using penetration tools and techniques to test and protect computer networks.  Topics include network and computer attacks, footprinting, social engineering, scanning, enumeration, cryptography, operating system and device vulnerability, and related ethical considerations.

Prerequisites:  PHI 115 or PHI 150, NET 231 or NET 236, and NET 280 with grades of C or better.  A criminal background check is also required.

Required Materials

  • Hands-On Ethical Hacking and Network Defense – Course Technology – ISBN-10: 0619217081  ISBN-13: 9780619217082
  • Internet access and a Harper Blackboard account.
  • A pair of computers that can be partitioned, reformatted, etc.  As an alternative, you can use a PC with VMWare to create virtual machines for many of the lab exercises.  Harper lab I 205 has computers and software that may be configured as necessary for this course.
