Burnham Nationwide’s code division, The Code Group, is seeking a part-time intern at the
Chicago office which is located at 111 W. Washington Street in Chicago, Illinois. Burnham’s
regular business hours are 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday. It is preferred that the intern is
able to put in 10-15 hours per week during Burnham’s regular business hours. These hours can
be flexible and can be arranged on a week-to-week basis.
Primary functions
- Perform a wide variety of drafting duties that utilize Computer-Aided Design/Drafting (CAD) in developing architectural and construction drawings, schedules and notes.
- Prepare preliminary drawings for feasibility, applications, and generates accurate and detailed records of electronic data.
- Exercise good judgment and initiative in the executing their responsibility.
Day-to-day responsibilities
- Develops and drafts architectural drawings and plans and generates correspondence for clients and managers.
- Maintains good communication with contractors, clients, engineers and the general public for any drawing or report-related issues.
- Performs fieldwork, documentation, research and drafting tasks of architectural and technical data as requested by clients or managers.
- Maintains up-to-date working and technical knowledge of all procedural and improvement changes to computer hardware and software applications.
Minimum qualifications
- Qualified candidates will be enrolled in an accredited college-level architectural or interior design program and exhibit:
- Ability to communicate clearly in written and graphic formats.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Word and Excel programs.
- Basic knowledge of construction drawing content and format.
- Basic math skills to prepare floor area calculations, occupancy calculations, travel distances, exit capacities, and plumbing fixture calculations.
