Harper College Study Abroad Programs

Harper College offers a variety of Study Abroad opportunities for our students. Our programs are offered by individual faculty members as full-credit classes during the summer. We also offer a range of study abroad opportunities through the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs (see below).

EXCTITING NEW STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS WITH HARPER COLLEGE FACULTY:

Full-Semester Programs (Fall or Spring)

CANTERBURY, ENGLAND: Students attend Canterbury Christ Church University, a 25 year old institution enrolling about 8,000 British and international students. Students will take two required courses: one course in Modern Britain, and another course in British History or literature, and two other electives with British students for a total of 12 credit hours. Students will live with a local family and may attend fall or spring semester. SALZBURG, AUSTRIA (also in Summer): Students attend Salzburg College, a private school college located in downtown Salzburg. Courses will be taught in English, but students will be expected to take a German language course, a course in Austrian Civilization, and either music appreciation or art history. Other courses are offered in the humanities, social sciences, and physical education for a total of 15 credit hours. Students will live in an Austrian home with a local family, and may enroll for fall or spring semester.

SEVILLE, SPAIN (also in Summer): Through Oakton Community College, students will study Spanish language and culture and take liberal arts courses. Students will live with a family or in apartments.

CARLOW, IRELAND: Through Kishwaukee College, students will study Irish culture and take liberal arts classes at Carlow College, 45 minutes from Dublin. Students will ive in apartments just 5 minutes from campus.

MORELIA, MEXICO (also in Summer): Students will attend school at Centro Mexicano International, CMI, in Mexico. Students are required to have at least one semester of previous study or coursework in the Spanish language. Courses will be taught in English, but students will be expected to take a Spanish language course and a course in Latin American culture. Students will live with a local family and may enroll for the summer, fall or spring semester.

XIAN, CHINA: Through College of Lake County, students will study Chinese language and culture, and take liberal arts classes at Xian International University, while living in international dorms.

 

Summer Semester Programs

MILAN, ITALY - MADRID, SPAIN - KYOTO, JAPAN - MUNICH, GERMANY - POHANSKO, CZECH REPUBLIC: Students may participate through the College of DuPage in four-week study programs in a variety of countries. Check with the Harper Study Abroad advisor for current offerings.

TANGIER, MORROCO: Through Joliet Junior College, students will study French or Arabic language and culture. Students will live in on-campus residences.

SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA: Through the College of DuPage, students will study Spanish language and culture at the Forester Institute in San José, Costa Rica, and live with local families.

DIJON, FRANCE: Through Parkland College, students will study French language and culture at the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France, and live in campus housing or with families.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: Through Madison Area Technical College, students will study at ICMS, the International College of Management, in Sydney. Students live in hotel-like accommodations, and study the culture of Australia.

SUMMER SEMESTER OFFERINGS BY HARPER FACULTY: Harper faculty offer short-term (2 - 5 week) study abroad programs in a variety of locations. Check with the Harper Study Abroad advisor for current offerings.

Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs

ICISP proudly provides leadership in international education and cultural diversity throughout Illinois and contiguous states. It offers cost-effective programs, services, and opportunities for constituencies. There are a wide range of study abroad programs offered through ICISP with varied locations and lengths. This consortium makes it possible for students to find the program which best fits their needs. ICISP also offers a variety of opportunities for the growth and development of faculty and administrators. Harper College is a member of the ICISP. Its exchange programs are available to Harper faculty and students.
