Application Process and Forms

International students are required to submit the following to the International Student Office at least eight weeks prior to the beginning of the semester or summer session in which they intend to begin their studies.

You must print out the forms and submit all completed forms by mail or fax.

PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT LETTER, FIRST.

This letter explains the application process and provides information regarding study at Harper College.

All International Student Applicants (F-1 Visa Status) must complete the following items to be considered for admission:

  • HARPER COLLEGE APPLICATION
    • An application fee of $25.00 (a NON-REFUNDABLE APPLICATION FEE) will be charged. You can pay by check or money order (U.S. funds) made payable to Harper College.
    • You may apply online. Create a login name and a password to start your online application.
    • INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PROCESSING FEE
      Harper College charges a $150.00 NON-REFUNDABLE PROCESSING FEE (U.S. FUNDS) check or money order made payable  to Harper College. This fee may be paid by check, money order (U.S. funds), or online when you receive the application acknowledgement letter from Harper College. This letter will contain your Harper Student ID number (H00_ _ _ _ _ _ _). With this number you can pay this $150 processing fee at this payment link.
  • INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FORM

    This two-page form must be completed and submitted with your Harper College application form. You must attach a bank certification or letter verifying that you and/or your sponsor has at least U.S.$23,000 to provide for your first year of tuition, fees, and living expenses. An applicant can have more than one sponsor. (US State Department requires sponsors to show verification of assets to cover tuition, fees, and living expenses. The estimated expenses are $23,000 per year for a single student and an additional $4,000 per each dependent). These estimated expenses are based on school attendance for two semesters.

  • EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND DOCUMENTS

    You must include proof of your completion of high school (secondary education) with your application. Your diploma or certificate of general education SHOULD BE TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH.

  • CHECKLIST FOR COMPLETE APPLICATION

    Print out this checklist to ensure you submit a completed application packet. On page two of this handout is a list of the academic majors available at Harper College.

  • RESPONSIBILITY FORM

    Read this form in its entirety, sign the top half and include any U.S. contact information.

  • PHOTOGRAPH

    Passport-size photograph of yourself.

  • COPY OF PASSPORT IDENTIFICATION PAGE (and I-94 CARD, if you are already in the U.S.)

    We require a copy of your passport, specifically the page with your photograph and identifying information. If you are currently residing in the U.S., we need a copy of your U.S. visa stamp and your I-94 card.

  • STATEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL GOALS

    All students must write a short paragraph DESCRIBING THEIR EDUCATIONAL GOALS.  Submit a handwritten paragraph, no computer-typed or typewritten pages. Use a pen to write this paragraph.

  • DEPENDENT, F-2 INFORMATION SHEET (if applicable)

    You will need to provide the citizenship, country of birth, date of birth, and gender information for all dependents (spouse and/or children) and provide a copy of each family member's passport, visa and I-94 card (if appropriate).

  • ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
  • You may submit the results of TOEFL or IELTS as a part of your admission application; however, neither is required for admission. If you do submit the minimum required score results, you will be permitted to take the COMPASS assessment tests before registering for classes. If you do not submit sufficient score results, you will need to take a Harper College ESL placement test. Based on the results of either test, you will be placed into ESL classes or directly into your degree program classes.

    The minimums for TOEFL and IELTS are:

    • iBT 79
    • CBT 210
    • Paper-based 550

    IELTS

    • 6.5

 

TRANSFER STUDENTS ONLY

  • SCHOOL TRANSFER ELIGIBILITY CONFIRMATION FORM

    This form needs to be completed by the student and the current school. A copy of current I-20 form if student is transferring from a U.S. high school, college or university or a copy of current DS 2019 Form if the student is currently in the U.S. on a “J” visa.

 

***IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL PROSPECTIVE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS***

HEALTH INSURANCE

Mandatory health insurance is required for all Harper College international students. Estimated annual fee is about $900.00; coverage for injuries and illnesses are a maximum of $250,000. Please request a brochure describing Harper College's health insurance for international students. DO NOT BUY A POLICY WITHOUT CHECKING WITH US FIRST TO SEE IF IT HAS EQUIVALENT BENEFITS, OTHERWISE YOU MAY HAVE TO PAY FOR TWO POLICIES.
