Creating a playlist in "Academic Video Online"

  1. Go to the Library website:
  2. Click on: Streaming Video
  3. Select from the list Academic Video Online
  4. If you are off-campus you will be prompted to log in with your Student Portal username and password
  5. To create a playlist, you need to "sign in" to American History in video (top right). When creating an account, use your Harper College email address.
  6. Perform a simple keyword search, or search within a specific subject collection of videos, by selecting the collection from the drop-down menu.. 
  7. Click the "+" sign to add the full-length video to a playlist. You will be prompted to select an existing playlist or to create a new playlist.
  8. Title your new playlist. Add an annotation describing the playlist. Notice the drop down menu that reads, "Who can see this playlist." The easiest choice is "Everyone at my institution."
  9. You can add clips of films, rather than full-length videos, to a playlist. While the film is playing, use the "Make clips" feature.
  10. To view all videos and clips added to a playlist, click on My Playlists, at the top right of the screen.
  11. To view the URL for the playlist you have created, go to the playlist, and look at the address bar. 
    (Notice the backend of the URL, Playlists/View/348655, this portion identifies your unique playlist.)
  12. Create a link that you can use in Blackboard and off-campus by pasting the backend of the URL to this hyperlink -


  13. Go to Blackboard. Find the appropriate place to paste the link. Select "Build Content" and click "URL" from the drop down list.
  14. Type the Playlist Title into the "Name" field. Paste the "Title URL" into the URL field. Provide the directions for your students in the text box. Click "Submit" when finished.
