The Spanish department offers a rich selection of lower division courses. Using a communicative approach, experienced instructors lead students to a valuable level of proficiency and cultural understanding in a stimulating and supportive environment.
Learning is enhanced through multimedia technology, free tutoring, and study abroad opportunities. Students discover that by learning Spanish, they not only gain useful skills, they also acquire new perspectives on the world. Coursework may be used to satisfy electives and program requirements, to cultivate personal interests, or to begin the path toward a minor or major in Spanish. Students often complete their first two years of study at Harper College and then transfer their credits to a four-year institution.
Harper College offers the following services to our Spanish students:
- Day, evening and distant learning classes
- Spanish Honors courses
- Spanish instructional and learning support through individual tutoring
- A testing center that administers exams to fit an individual's life/work demands
- Library with extensive Spanish texts and books as well as computerized research
