1. We can be reasonably certain the component Y is present in the sample. The Rf value for the spot in the mixture is nearly the same as it was for the pure Y spot. The similarity in color of the two spots and the fact that we expected to find Y in sample all increase our confidence. Components X and Z are not present in the sample.

2. The purple spot in the sample does not match any of the suspected components in Rf or color. We can definitely say that there is at least one other component present in the sample.

3. Rf = 2.7 / 5.8 = 0.47

4. Y traveled the furthest. Since the mobile phase was nonpolar, Y is the most nonpolar. As Z traveled the shortest distance, it is the most polar.
