Developing a Plate
To develop a plate, it is placed in a covered vessel containing the solvent to be used. The plate and vessel are then left undisturbed until the solvent reaches the top of the plate or until an adequate separation is achieved. The plate below was spotted with the 7 FD & C dyes and developed in a mixture of butanol, ethanol, water and ammonia.
