Alka Selzer/Water Reaction



Ca(H2PO4)2 + 2 NaHCO3 2 H2O + 2 CO2 + CaHPO4 + Na2HPO4

An Alka Selzer tablet is broken into quarters. A piece of Alka Selzer is placed in a test tube and 10 ml of water added. In the pictures shown, the test tube in the upper left inset contains only the tablet while the other tube contains the tablet and water. The number in the lower left corner is the amount of time required for a majority of the bubbling to subside.
