Spectroscopy - The Experiment
In this experiment you will take the emission spectra of several elements. You will then use the information you collect to answer several questions about the experiment and the other information in this activity.
You will be taking your spectra using a spectroscope like the one shown in the previous section. In order to acquire accurate data you must first calibrate your instrument.
You now have a calibration curve for your spectroscope. Use this graph to determine the lines in the spectra of each of the following elements. While examining the flame tests and spectra of each element make sure to record the location of the lines and the color of the flame test or discharge tube.
When you are finished with the experiment, proceed to the postlab.
