Faculty Retreat 2012
YOU - DEstressed and Energized - Rediscover the Joy on Your Job
About 110 people attended the Faculty Retreat on that snowy Friday, braving the weather in order to be with us at Poplar Creek Country Club in Hoffman Estates. Among us were about 30 Harper adjuncts, who were invited for the first time. It was wonderful having them there and we all enjoyed the opportunity to build community, socialize and meet fellow faculty.
Our theme for the day was taking care of yourself, including tools for stress relief and building a positive work environment.
Our keynote speaker, Edward Leigh, founder and director of the Center for Healthcare Communications, Cleveland, OH, spoke to us about Joy on the Job - Creating a Positive Workplace Environment and Laughter and Learning.
Catherine Boskovic, a Harper adjunct faculty member, spoke on the topic of Relaxation, Stress Relief and Aromatherapy. We enjoyed sharing the samples of essential oils Cat brought for us and learning their uses. She showed us yoga poses to relieve stress, which we practiced at our seats.
Included in the activities of the day was delicious food and great raffle prizes contributed by many of the deans and Dr. Ender, who donated a 5 - day stay at his Virginia condominium. The winner of that "grand" prize was Kathi Nevels! Contratulations, Kathi.
We had quite a few folks join us for the afterparty where we enjoyed cocktails, appetizers and chair massages compliments of Harper's Therapeutic Massage department.
